Health Care

Providing safe drinking water
  • We have completed a program to prevent the children from early renal diseases. We have distributed 100 fluorite filters to the families with children in Medavachchiya district.
Providing sanitary facilities
  • In rural villages of Anuradapura District, over 50% of the homes do not have sanitary facilities. In 2007, we have build 100 toilets for the families with young girls, in three villages in Medawachchiya Divisional Secretariat Division. The Jephcott Charitable Trust in UK funded this project. Developing hospital facilities
  • In September 2012, an old building at Hiniduma hospital was refurbished and a new Children’s ward was established by Karuna Trust. Read full report

  • In 2005 an eye clinic was held to identify people who require reading glasses and reading glasses were donated

Give Sight to a Visually Impaired Person

During the last 12 months, Karuna Trust jointly with Vision 2020 Sri Lanka has conducted 21 screening camps and have given sight to 1236 patients. Among them there were 28 completely blind patients. These patients were from Thissamaharamaya, Matara, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Veyangoda, Galgamuwa, Piliyandala, Kebithigollewa, Padaviya, Medawachchiya and Vavuniya.

There were many patients with both eyes blind and were very well deserved this service. We Karuna Trust financed and organized screening programs, transporting patients up and down, funding for lenses and consumables ect. Each surgery has cost us SLR 5500.00 excluding our traveling expenses. Read More
